Waxwing Energy was founded to make this journey clearer and more accessible for everyone involved, from homeowners to design professionals, by offering holistic solutions that address both technical and personal aspects.

Meet our Founder
Gervase Mangwana
Following a career as music producer and international DJ racking up a massive carbon debt, Gervase Mangwana transitioned to a purpose-driven life in sustainability. Living in Manchester, with its high proportion of solid-walled Victorian properties, Gervase was inevitably drawn to the challenge of reducing the energy consumption in housing whilst improving comfort and health.
Over a decade, Gervase has deepened his expertise in retrofitting, working on personal projects to achieve the Passivhaus Enerphit standard, collaborating with architects, and supporting the AECB’s mission for low-energy housing.
Gervase’s journey in retrofit and sustainability began with a Masters in Renewable Energy and the Built Environment from the Centre for Alternative Technology, Wales, in 2012. Further honing his expertise, he became a qualified Passivhaus consultant and an accredited IATS Level 1 Blower Door Tester, with over a decade of experience in whole house retrofit assessments and airtightness testing.
His work spans across the private sector and initiatives like the People Powered Retrofit, contributing significantly to retrofit at scale through government projects. Gervase’s unique experience also extends to managing building services for a large meditation centre, showcasing his skill in navigating the complexities of low-energy buildings.
